Tuesday Movie Recommendation: A Single Man (2009)

There are few films which can be this much poetic. Based on a 1964 novel by Christopher Isherwood of the same name and directed in 2009 by Tom Ford who is perhaps more famous for his dress design (with Gucci and YSL). The story revolves around an English professor who loses his partner and then he sees nothing in his life anymore. I would not reveal anymore as I suspect any further information on the film will borderline on being a spoiler.

One of my favourite moments of the film is this voice over towards the end, “A few times in my life I’ve had moments of absolute clarity, when for a few brief seconds the silence drowns out the noise and I can feel rather than think, and things seem so sharp and the world seems so fresh. I can never make these moments last. I cling to them, but like everything, they fade. I have lived my life on these moments. They pull me back to the present, and I realize that everything is exactly the way it was meant to be.

I am sure if you can move around the topic of homosexuality in the film, you will complete enjoy it. In any case it is going to my permanent collection. (trailer / imdb)
